Freedom from Ungodly Covenants

(beware of idol-offered food)

The Bible teaches that believers belong to Jesus Christ and are called to worship God alone. Through Christ's death and resurrection, He has defeated the powers of sin and evil (Colossians 2:15). Therefore, Christians are called to renounce every form of idolatry, occult practice, and spiritual compromise, and to live in wholehearted devotion to God.

1. Remove Objects That Promote Idolatry or Occult Practices

1 Corinthians 10:20–21 "The things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God... You cannot partake of the Lord's table and of the table of demons."

Throughout Scripture, God's people were called to remove objects associated with idol worship and practices that led them away from Him.

When God convicts us, our response should be repentance and obedience.

2. Break Every Ungodly Covenant

Exodus 34:12-13: "Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land... lest it be a snare in your midst. 13 "But you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images." Bear in mind that command is for Canaan and not Egypt.

God warned Israel against entering relationships and agreements that would lead them into idolatry.

Repentance is turning away from sin and turning wholeheartedly toward God.

3. Choose Relationships That Strengthen Your Faith

2 Corinthians 6:14–18: "Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers."

Paul's primary concern was that believers should not enter partnerships that lead them into spiritual compromise.

Exodus 34:15: “lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they play the harlot with their gods and make sacrifice to their gods, and one of them invites you and you eat of his sacrifice.”

Our confidence is not in our own strength but in Jesus.

5. Walk in Ongoing Freedom

Freedom is not only about leaving behind old practices—it is about living a new life.

The greatest safeguard against spiritual bondage is a close relationship with Christ.

1 John 4:4: "He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world."
