15. We do not need obedience in tithing alone

(Hatuhitaji utii katika kutoa zaka peke yake)

Tithing was not mentioned in the Old Testament alone as many claim. Mat 23:23 “"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.” The Lord Jesus rebuked them because they pay tithes and forget other areas. Our success does not depend on tithe alone. When you pay tithe, don't be proud. You must serve God in different ways such as prayer, evangelism, etc. The Lord Jesus did not tell them to stop giving tithes but told them to do good in other areas. We learn that the Lord Jesus recognized the tithe of small things too. Just ask yourself if you pay the tithe of anise and vegetables! Tithe is like a tax for the operation of God's government. God wants His servants to receive tithe so they do not become engrossed in their businesses. If they fail to spend time with God, they will give us the message of the Word that does not change our lives.

Heb 7:8 “Here mortal men receive tithes, but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives.” This text shows that we should give tithes to God's servants on earth to be blessed in the life to come. If we avoid paying tithes, we will not succeed in our lives.

My testimony: When I do any work and receive a bank notification that payment was deposited in my account, I pay its tithe even before I withdraw it (whenever possible). I do this to avoid spending it before tithing. In doing so, the money is protected and I accomplish more than people who make more money.
