FACTORS THAT PROMOTE SEXUAL IMMORALITY
(Your body can not purchase your destiny)
Main Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:18 “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.”
1. SEXUAL IMMORALITY CAN CREATE DEEP BONDS AND CONSEQUENCES
1 Corinthians 6:16 says: “He who is joined to a harlot is one body with her. For ‘the two,’ He says, ‘shall become one flesh.’”
Sexual intimacy is powerful. God designed it for the covenant of marriage.
When people engage in sexual relationships outside God's design, there can be serious consequences
Therefore, Paul says in 1 Corinthians 6:18: “Flee sexual immorality.”
Notice that Scripture does not tell us to negotiate with sexual temptation.
Sometimes victory does not come from standing near temptation and trying to prove how strong we are. Victory comes from getting away from it.
We must know our weaknesses and establish boundaries before temptation arrives.
2. THE DESIRE TO USE SEX TO OBTAIN FAVORS CAN BECOME A TRAP
Another factor is the willingness to exchange sexual access for something we need.
But we must remember: Our destiny should never depend on sexual compromise. Psalm 75:6–7 says: “For exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge.”
Our opportunities ultimately remain in God's hands. Proverbs 22:29 says: “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings.”
Therefore, let us pursue excellence rather than manipulation.
We do not need to sell our bodies to purchase our destiny.
3. IMPATIENCE CAN PUSH US INTO SEXUAL COMPROMISE
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says: “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”
Many people become vulnerable to temptation because they want something immediately. And when God's timing appears slow, we look for shortcuts.
But shortcuts can become traps. James 5:11 reminds us of Job's perseverance and the Lord's compassion.
4. IGNORANCE OF OUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST MAKES US VULNERABLE
Colossians 2:10 says: “And you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.”
We must understand who we are in Christ. We do not have to manipulate people to obtain what God can provide. We do not have to compromise our holiness to receive favor.
Our identity is not determined by what someone else can give us. We are complete in Christ.
This does not mean we sit passively and expect miracles without responsibility. It means we combine faith with diligence, prayer with wisdom, and dependence upon God with responsible action.
5. THE LOVE OF MONEY CAN OPEN THE DOOR TO COMPROMISE
1 Timothy 6:9–10 warns about those who desire to become rich and fall into temptation. Money itself is not evil. But the love of money can cause people to compromise their values.
We should never sacrifice our peace, integrity, marriage, or relationship with God for temporary financial gain.
Jesus asked in Mark 8:36: “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”
6. UNWISE ENVIRONMENTS CAN STRENGTHEN TEMPTATION
1 Corinthians 15:33 says: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
Sometimes the problem is not that we lack prayer. The problem is that we continually place ourselves in environments that feed temptation.
We cannot continually entertain inappropriate relationships and expect to remain spiritually strong. Therefore, we need boundaries.
Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is walk away.
7. WE MUST UNDERSTAND THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Galatians 5:16 says: “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
Our victory does not come merely from willpower. We need the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit gives us: strength to resist temptation, wisdom to recognize danger, conviction when we are going in the wrong direction, power to break destructive habits, courage to establish boundaries, and grace to pursue holiness.
8. THERE IS A WAY OUT
1 Corinthians 10:13 gives us hope: “God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able... but with the temptation will also make the way of escape.”
God provides a way out.
Sometimes the way out is: ending a relationship, blocking a number, leaving a dangerous environment, confessing our struggle to a trusted mature believer, seeking counseling, refusing an inappropriate offer, changing our routines, or simply walking away.
When God gives us a way of escape, we must use it.
9. WE MUST NOT CONDEMN THOSE WHO HAVE FALLEN
Galatians 6:1 says: “If a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness.”
The church must become a place of restoration, not humiliation. If someone has fallen sexually, we should not announce their failure to everyone. We should help them repent. We should help them rebuild. We should help them establish boundaries.
10. OUR BODIES BELONG TO GOD
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 says: “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit... therefore glorify God in your body.”
Our bodies are not commodities. Our bodies are not bargaining tools.
Our bodies are not instruments for obtaining promotions, contracts, money, or influence. We belong to God.
