THE DANGER OF SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS

THE DANGER OF SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS

(Service without intimacy is just activity)

The greatest danger is not losing your position; it is losing the presence and power of God while still thinking everything is normal.

Samson had defeated enemies that ordinary men could not defeat.

Spiritual weakness does not usually begin in public. It begins privately.

1. SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS CAN BEGIN WHEN YOU REVEAL SACRED THINGS TO UNSAFE PEOPLE

Judges 16:15–17

Delilah repeatedly pressured Samson until he revealed his secret. He told her the truth about the source of his strength.

Jesus said: “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine.” — Matthew 7:6

1 Corinthians 4:1 Paul says: “Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.”

May God give you discernment to know what to reveal, what to conceal, whom to trust, and when to speak!

2. SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS CAN CAUSE YOU TO BECOME LIKE AN ORDINARY PERSON

Judges 16:17

Samson said: “If I am shaved, then my strength will leave me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.”

Samson recognized that something extraordinary had been entrusted to him.

Do not become ordinary when God has called you to carry something extraordinary.

3. WHEN YOU BECOME SPIRITUALLY WEAK, THE ENEMY CAN DISCOVER YOUR INNER LIFE

Judges 16:18 “He has told me all his heart.”

Delilah now knew what was inside Samson. The enemy had obtained information that could be used against him.

Some people do not celebrate your calling; they study your weaknesses.

Therefore, do not give enemies unnecessary information about your vulnerabilities.

But this does not mean living in suspicion of everyone.

4. BEING LULLED TO SLEEP CAN CLOUD YOUR SPIRITUAL MIND

Judges 16:19: “Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees.” – caused him to feel sleepy and relaxed

Samson was sleeping in the lap of the person who was preparing his destruction.

The enemy does not always attack you with something frightening.

Sometimes he attacks you through comfort, compromise, distraction, pleasure, familiarity, and gradual spiritual negligence.

Then Samson's hair was cut.

And the Bible says: “His strength left him.”

The enemy wants to put your spiritual life to sleep.

5. SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS CAN MAKE YOU UNABLE TO DO WHAT YOU ONCE DID

Judges 16:20

Samson said: “I will go out as at other times before.” He expected yesterday's strength to operate today.

Samson did not realize that the Lord had departed from him.

Never assume that because God used you yesterday, everything is automatically right today.

You can be popular and powerless.

6. SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS CAN BLIND YOU

Judges 16:21

The Philistines: “Gouged out his eyes.”

Before Samson lost his physical eyes, his spiritual perception had already been compromised.

A spiritually blind person may not recognize that they are declining.

We need the prayer of David: Psalm 139:23–24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart... and see if there is any wicked way in me.”

We need the Holy Spirit to expose what we cannot see about ourselves.

SIGNS THAT YOU ARE BECOMING SPIRITUALLY WEAK

Watch yourself when:

  1. Prayer becomes a burden. It is only an obligation.

  2. The Bible no longer excites you.

  3. Sin no longer troubles your conscience.

  4. Correction makes you angry.

  5. You become careless about spiritual boundaries.

  6. You reveal everything to everyone.

  7. You depend more on people than on God.

  8. You begin living on yesterday's experiences.

  9. You lose spiritual discernment.

  10. You become comfortable with what once disturbed you.

  11. Ministry becomes performance instead of service to God.

Do not wait until your hair is cut to realize that you have become spiritually weak.
